““Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Praying for Angels to Protect

When my kids were little, some nights they would be afraid. To help calm their fears I said a very direct prayer that went something like this, “Dear Jesus, may your mighty warrior angels protect this child as they sleep and may You guide them when they wake.” It became routine and as I tucked them into bed at night. As I look back now, I see how God was faithful in my prayers for my children. While I remember a few instances of fear, they always were able to fall asleep after I prayed this over them.

Calling on angels to protect

When I was a child, I remember my dad at the kitchen table each morning with his cereal and his Bible. Shortly before this ritual he would spend an extended period in prayer. While he never prayed directly over me, I know that those prayers by his bedside must have been powerful. I was protected and guided by the Lord even on days I wasn’t earnestly seeking Him.

What is certain is that God is our rescuer and He commands His angels to watch over us. My daughter even told me that when she is babysitting she recites a similar prayer to the one I prayed over her back when she was younger. This calms the children and allows them to sleep.

Prayer is a powerful weapon

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In the inner healing prayer ministry I’m a part of, Wellsprings of Freedom, we see this in every freedom session. We pray very direct prayers and ask God to send his angel armies to war against the evil one to protect and bring about healing into our guest’s life.

It’s amazing to see how the Holy Spirit works to lift the weight of oppression and break all the chains. Our guest’s countenance visibly changes by the end of the session. Surely, the Lord enlists His angel armies to be at war and free those He loves. Prayer is powerful!
